The founding members of Dubtonic Kru are Deleon “Jubba” White and Strickland “Stone” Stone, a dynamic Drum & Bass duo who, over the years have contributed to the development of modern roots reggae. The Kru has gained about a decade and a half of experience from touring and or recording with the legendary likes of Max Romeo, U-Roy, Burning Spear, The Mighty Diamonds as well as modern day artistes such as Bushman, Junior Kelly, Richie Spice, Lutan Fyah and Voicemail to name a few… One of the significant milestones in their careers was the composition of the “I Swear” rhythm, a rhythm that took the Reggae arena by storm, which featured Chuck Fenda’s "i swear" and Richie Spice's "marijuana pon di corner". The extention of the group now boasts additional members such as Luke on work stations, the unique voice of Kamau, while on percussions,Jallanzo on guitar and vocals and Craig on lead guitar. Their songs and spoken words are consciously thought provoking, while their rhythm/dub section walks through the passage of time with a gritty sound that rolls stones and break fences.

Catch A Vibe Mondays w/ THE MIGHTY DIAMONDS
Monday February 8th 2010
@ Bar DeLuxe (668 South State Street)
$ 10
The Mighty Diamonds are a Jamaican harmony trio, recording roots reggae with a strong Rastafarian influence. The group, which comprises Donald "Tabby" Shaw, Fitzroy "Bunny" Simpson, and Lloyd "Judge" Ferguson, was formed in 1969 and remains together as of 2008. They are best-known for their 1976 debut album Right Time produced by Joseph Hoo Kim and the 1979 release Deeper Roots.
Their first hit singles "Country Living" and "Hey Girl" were recorded on the Channel One label. Two of their greatest songs are "Go Seek Your Rights" and "I Need A Roof" both from the mid 1970s. The classic Mighty Diamonds style is 'roots reggae', in their case characterised by close harmony lyrics, Tabby's relatively high-pitched lead vocals, and earnest, 'conscious' lyrical content. Instrumentation was not as bass-heavy as some of their contemporaries in the 70's.
"Pass the Koutchie", written by Leroy Sibbles and Jackie Mittoo, became an international hit twice, when first released (on their 1982 album Changes[1]) and again when it was covered by Musical Youth and released as "Pass the Dutchie".
Tabby, Bunny and Judge have produced over 40 albums in their long career.

As you know Babylon Down is dedicated to promoting reggae/ dancehall sound system culture right here in Utah. We've promoted parties, live artists, a dancehall queen contest and this time around we're hosting Salt Lake City's first ever 45 CUP CLASH. Clashes are a integral part of the reggae sound system culture and we'd like to introduce the Salt Lake Reggae fans to these kinds of events.
On Monday February 15th 2010, 4 selectors will face off in a friendly musical competition where they'll be matching wits in selecting, hyping up the crowd, and showcasing their knowledge of Reggae tunes. The object of the clash is to "kill" the other sound or sounds, leaving one selector to be the champion. Maximum respect to all selecta's for partaking in this event, we're looking forward to hearing your selections and to having a great night.

Greetings,
Happy Holidays to all massive from the Babylon Down Crew, it's been a month since we've started our new residency "Catch A Vibes Mondays" @ Bar DeLuxe, the turn out & vibes have been great. Tonight is the last session for the year 2009, next week we're kicking of 2010 with Reggae Legends "THE MELODIANS" on Monday January 4th.
The following info was taken from their web site www.themelodians.net
The Melodians are one of Jamaica's greatest Rocksteady groups, cutting a series of classic singles during the late '60s and early '70s that included the internationally famed "Rivers of Babylon" and "Sweet Sensation." In 1966, when driving rhythms of ska were abandoned in favor of the slower, more soulful Rocksteady, Jamaican performers discovered a freedom of expression they had previously been denied. In overcoming the limitations of ska the dawn of the Rocksteady age begun. A few groups rose to notoriety with none more popular than The Melodians.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the Yami Bolo and Mad Professor ft. Macka B shows, both shows were a positive note for Salt Lakes Reggae scene, great music and great vibes. Which the same can't be said about our resident night at Monk's, to much drama and fights on a weekly basis, we've decided because of these reasons to not host reggae nights for a while. Thanks again to everyone that supported the sound and everyone that came to our events with a positive attitude.

We're sorry to announce that The Fully Fullwood show got cancelled.
01/05/09
We wish everybody the best for 2009 and like to thank everybody for their support in what we do.
Up coming D.J.'s, acts & bands that we've invited to come play with us in 2009 are :
Monday 02/02/09 Yami Bolo & The Euphony band
Beginning in the early '80s, Yami Bolo was slated as the fresh blood that was to invigorate reggae -- and he has helped to do it. Eschewing gun and money lyrics, Bolo takes Roots Reggae's conscious lyrics and beautiful melodies and floats them over the most modern Dancehall rhythms of the day. It doesn't seem to matter whom he works with: whether it's Sly Robbie, Bobby Digital, Winston Riley, King Jammy, Augustus Pablo or Tappa Zukie, Bolo's cuts are consistently fresh and catchy
For the best in up-to-date Dancehall with a touch of the class that made '70s reggae albums so great, Yami Bolo is at the top of modern Jamaican artists.
For more info check www.yamibolo.com
Monday 02/09/09 Mad Professor
Mad Professor's music is an extension of his mentor and collaborator Lee "Scratch" Perry's work, drawing on heavy Roots rhythms while adding a commanding knowledge of modern computer and keyboard-based mixing. Working simultaneously in both Lover's Rock and Dub, Mad Professor adds innovative sounds without rejecting the traditionally live instrumental foundation of reggae. Synthesized and acoustic instruments drop in and out of his songs at will -- fading, echoing, and generally being altered in any way possible; at the same time, a plethora of electronically affected sounds swirl around your brain. His Dub Me Crazy albums are modern masterstrokes, and his work with artists like U-Roy seem like a return to the golden days of Dub. Mad Professor has influenced artists in a variety of genres (Trip-Hop and Ambient, among others) due in part to his collaborations with Massive Attack and the Orb.
For more info check www.myspace.com/madprofessordub
All shows are at The Urban Lounge (241 South 500 East) on our resident "Roots & Culture Monday" nights.
Once again Happy New Year & Big up
12/23/08
It's been almost a month since we've switched our schedules and locations for our reggae nights, so far it's been going better than expected. Monday nights at The Urban Lounge has been a positive change for our sound, patrons are showing up and supporting the variety of shows, both local and international reggae talent were represented this last month. Moving Monday night to Thursday night at Monk's was also a welcoming change, and has been well attended S.L.C.'s massive, Thursday nights are more focused on dancehall, new riddims, anthems and pure bashement vibes at Salt Lake's longest reggae hosting venue.
Once again big up all S.L.C. massive and crew for the love and support.
